Formal Garden Dublin
This garden was designed and built for a South Dublin client.
Formality and symmetry were the design brief as the house faced onto a victorian square
and garden was to be in keeping with the areas original era.
The garden had a small slope so was split into three seperate levels with two steps.
Granite was used as surface paving as it was a favourite building material of the Victorians and
can be seen through out Dublin.
Granite also reflects daylight perfectly which made it an ideal choice for the garden.
The Garden faces due North and gets little sun except for late in the day when the top
corner became an evening sun trap.
In the middle level four corner beds around a central feature created an old style period garden.
These raised beds were capped with distinctive natural granite caps.
Granite cobbles or cubes mirrored the center piece creating a circular pathway leading to back patio.
Ballylusk chippings from the local Ashford quarry in Co. Wicklow provided 10mm gold gravel agreaggate to infill pathway and top level.
Planting was casual and made up of agaphantus, chamrops, trachycarpus fortunii, ginko trees and two twin
maples established before landscaping that arched over the newly formed garden.
The lower patio measured forty square meters and provided and excellent platform for a dining set of steel garden furniture.
A water feature was installed beside patio to create an atmosphere of relaxation.
A granite sphere housed a pump unit and gave a perfect atmospheric feel to a classical garden.
